When God Is Silent – Trusting Him in the Waiting

When God Is Silent – Trusting Him in the Waiting

📖 Scripture

Lamentations 3:26
“It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

💬 Devotional

There’s a sacred ache in the silence of God.

Not the loud kind of suffering where everything breaks at once—but the quiet kind. The kind where prayers echo unanswered. Where the heavens feel still. Where you’re doing your best to trust, but the waiting stretches longer than you expected.

Maybe you’re in a “Saturday” kind of season. The day between the cross and the resurrection. The grief after loss, but before redemption. That quiet middle ground where everything feels unfinished—and God seems absent.

But Scripture tells us something counterintuitive: It is good to wait quietly. Not because the waiting itself feels good, but because God is still present in it. The silence does not mean He’s gone. It often means He’s doing work that eyes cannot see.

The resurrection came on Sunday. But faith was required on Saturday.
Not a faith that fixes everything—just a faith that stays.

If you're there today—in the unanswered, the unhealed, the unresolved—know this:
You're not forgotten. You're being held in the quiet by a God who still moves even when He doesn't speak.

🧠 Theology for the Weary

God’s silence isn’t a flaw in His character—it’s often a tool of formation.

Lamentations was written in the wreckage of Jerusalem, and yet it speaks of hope quietly held. The Hebrew word for “wait” in Lamentations 3:26 carries the sense of expectation wrapped in tension—not a passive waiting, but one that leans forward in trust.

✅ Before the angel speaks, Mary wonders in silence.
✅ Before Jesus rises, there’s the stillness of the tomb.
✅ Before direction is given, Elijah hears a whisper.

The silence of God doesn’t mean He’s absent.
It often means He’s working in ways our hearts aren’t ready to hear—yet.

🔍 Reflection Questions

✅ Where am I experiencing silence in my spiritual life right now?
✅ What am I tempted to believe about God when I don’t hear from Him?
✅ How can I hold on to quiet trust instead of filling the silence with fear?

🙏 Prayer

God, when You feel far away, I panic.
But I want to trust You in the quiet—not just the miracles.
Teach me to wait with hope, to sit with You in the silence,
And to believe that even when I hear nothing, You are still working.
Hold me steady in the waiting. Amen.

🍵 Invitation to Stillness

If your soul is weary from the quiet, steep a cup of Peppermint—its crisp, cooling presence refreshes without demand.

✅ Let the aroma settle your breath.
✅ Sit with it in unhurried silence.
✅ Sip gently, remembering that stillness is not empty—it’s full of unseen grace.

Even here, even now, God is near.
