When Strength Feels Silent – A Devotion for Men This Father’s Day

📖 Scripture

Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

💬 Devotional

There’s a kind of strength many men carry that never gets noticed. It’s not loud or heroic. It doesn’t always look like confidence or control. It’s the kind that shows up quietly every morning—the strength to go to work, to try again, to carry burdens no one else sees.

Maybe you’ve felt the weight of providing, protecting, leading. And maybe, if you’re honest, you’ve also felt like it’s not enough. Like the expectations are too high, and the silence too loud.

God doesn’t just call you to be strong—He promises to be your strength. Joshua’s courage didn’t come from having all the answers. It came from knowing he wasn’t walking alone.

So if you’re tired… if you’re questioning your role as a father, a husband, a man of faith—hear this: You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be present. And God is already present with you.

You’re not leading alone. You’re not protecting alone. You’re not loving alone. He’s in it with you.

🧠 Theology for the Weary

Joshua’s command wasn’t rooted in human resolve but in divine presence. God had led Israel for generations, and now He was calling Joshua to trust that same faithful guidance. “Be strong” wasn’t a demand—it was an invitation into dependence.

This is God’s pattern with men throughout Scripture: strength is never self-sourced. From Moses to David to Joseph, God chooses the humble, the hesitant, the men who know they need help—and fills them with His presence.

🔍 Reflection Questions

✅ Where have I been trying to carry the weight alone?
✅ What does God’s presence look like in my role as a man or father?
✅ How can I lean into courage that comes from dependence, not self-reliance?

🙏 Prayer

God, I don’t always feel strong.
But You haven’t asked me to be a hero—just to walk with You.
Help me show up with courage and love, even when I feel uncertain.
Be my strength when I feel weak, and my wisdom when I feel lost.
Remind me that I never walk alone.
Amen.

🍵 Invitation to Stillness

Today, pause for a moment—not to plan or fix or carry—but to breathe.
If you have a quiet space, prepare a cup of Assam For Breakfast, our robust black tea that speaks to quiet endurance and unshakable grace.
Let each sip remind you that even strength needs rest.
And your Father sees you—even in the silence.
